  The Road Not Taken

  一条未走的路

  Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,

  And sorry I could not travel both

  And be one traveler, long I stood

  And looked down one as far as I could

  To where it bent in the undergrowth;

  Then took the other, as just as fair,

  And having perhaps the better claim

  Because it was grassy and wanted wear,

  Though as for that the passing there

  Had worn them really about the same,

  And both that morning equally lay

  In leaves no step had trodden black.

  Oh, I marked the first for another day!

  Yet knowing how way leads on to way

  I doubted if I should ever come back.

  I shall be telling this with a sigh

  Somewhere ages and ages hence:

  Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,

  I took the one less traveled by,

  And that has made all the difference.

  金色的林子里有两条岔开的路,

  很遗憾, 我, 一个旅行的人,

  不能在同一时刻踏上这两条路.

  伫立好久, 我向一条路极目远眺,

  直到它转弯, 视线被灌木丛挡住.

  随后我选了另一条, 这一条也不差,

  也许我还能说出更好的理由,

  因为它芳草萋萋, 不曾被践踏——

  虽然说到这一点, 一经我走过,

  同样也难免把斑斑的足印留下.

  那天早晨, 两条路摆在我面前,

  同样埋在没有被踩脏的落叶下.

  啊, 我把那第一条留给另一天!

  可是我知道, 一条路又接一条路,

  我怀疑, 将来是否能旧地重返.

  过了许多许多年, 在某个地方,

  我将叹口气, 提起当年的旧事:

  林子里有两条路, 朝着两个方向,

  而我——我走上了一条更荒凉的路,

  而它就带来了迥然不同的景象.

  Robert Frost (1874 - 1963 / San Francisco / USA)

  美国20世纪最富盛名的诗人. 曾任哈佛大学驻校作家, 四次获得普利泽文学奖. 他的诗歌主要以牧场和农村最平凡的事物为题材, 扎根在生活的泥土之中. 作品语言清新, 朴质无华, 却又细致含蓄, 耐人寻味, 往往以描写自然风光或风俗人情开始, 不知不觉的进入哲理的境界.
